The Maison Française of Columbia University cordially invites you to attend their Fall 2008 Eugene J. Sheffer Distinguished Lecture on November 18, 2008. Their guest for this lecture will be Christian Boltanski, French installation artist, sculptor, painter, and photographer. The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the East Gallery of Buell Hall, located on Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus. Christian Boltanski's talk is entitled, "The Impossible Life of Christian Boltanski".
The talk will be in English and will be followed by a question-answer session.
Born in 1944, Christian Boltanski began painting and drawing at the age of 12. Much of his work focuses on themes related to the fleeting and ephemeral nature of the human experience. He has exhibited his work at a variety of museums and galleries, including the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the New York Public Library, the Musée National d'Art
Modern-Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Marian Goodman Gallery in New York, to name but a few.
